Reply from another media outlet

We have received another reply! This time its from a media outlet that is called "Naturfreunde". They seem interested in our project and would like to receive an article to see if the quality is good enough.

We then replied to them and send them the article:

Sadly, we wont be able to publish an article with the media outlet "Naturfreunde" since their expectations are really high and it would go beyond the scope of the IDAF. Here are screenshots of the rest of the E-Mail Conversation:

E-Mail to other media outlets part 2

Despite getting a positive response from "Zürcher Oberländer" and them allowing us to send in a draft of our article, we still want to contact some other media outlets since its better to have a couple of options instead of hoping for one to work out.

Therefore we have contacted another two media outlets:

1. Naturfreunde Schweiz (contacted on the 18th april 2023) - reply received! Check seperate post!

2. Beobachter Schweiz (contacted on the 18th april 2023) - no reply yet

In total we have contacted 6 media outlets and have received a reply from one so far. We hope that we get more replies and the chance to publish our article.

Visit to the kindergarten

As planned, we visited the kindergarten last Tuesday the 11th April 2023. Our goal of the visit was to teach the children about green roofs and what they do for environment.

The kindergarten is located in Gibswil and upon arrival the teacher helped us to set up everything. Soon after the children arrived, Leon gave them a short introduction of our project. To make it more understandable for the children he used questions such as "Who has a garden? What kind of plants do you grow in your garden? Have you ever imagined your garden being on top of your roof?"

The children were really excited and told us about their garden and what kind of vegetables, flowers or other plants they are growing together with their parents.

We also brought along our own miniature green roof that we had built in advance so that the children could visualize it better.

Afterward we split the 12 children into groups of three and started working on the miniature green roof. Some were more excited than others, but in general almost all of them liked the idea of decorating their own "house" and getting their hands dirty while planting the seeds for the green roof.

Here are some pictures of the children decorating the shoebox and planting the seeds:

We spent approximately two hours at the kindergarten and the children really enjoyed this experience. They were all really enthusiastic and couldn't wait for the seeds to grow. In total, we built three miniature green roofs with the children. Over all, it was a memorable and educational experience for us.

E-Mail to other media outlets

For our IDAF we have contacted a few more media outlets. We send E-Mails to general media outlets and as well to those which focus on nature and enviroment. We have also made an effort to ask our families and friends if they have any contacts which could help us publish our article. Sadly no one of us knows someone who works for a media outlet.

1. WOZ Die Wochenzeitung (contacted on the 15th april 2023), reply received! Check seperate post.

2. Züriost (contacted on the 15th april 2023), no reply yet.

3. Pro Natura (contacted on the 15th april 2023), no reply yet.

Feedback for "Wastewater"

Overall, the project's goal and objectives seem well-defined and aligned with promoting public education and awareness of the wastewater treatment process and resource recovery. The approach outlined, including research, site visits, and content creation, appears to be practical. The potential collaborators identified, such as wastewater treatment facilities, industry experts, and local government, are relevant and could provide valuable input and support for the project. A date for the interview has been set.The project has the potential to make a positive impact by raising public awareness of wastewater treatment and resource recovery. With proper planning and execution, the project could educate the community to promote sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Taking all of the above into consideration, we rate this project 8/10. We see great potential and could see this project making an impact.

Step 2 - Team Building

What has been done:

- Purchased green roof material for our miniature green roof (Do-It Migros)
- Contacted Kindergarten
- Contacted ETH student - sadly, he couldn't meet our requirements for our project.
- Set up an interview with an Israeli environment student. He will additionally give us a feedback and constructive critique on our project.

What will be done:

- This Saturday (18.03.2023) we will build the miniature green roof.
- The interview will be conducted via Zoom due to the long distance this Friday (17.03.2023 14.00 CET)
- Set a date for our visit to the Kindergarten to build the miniature green roof with the children
- Summarize the interview, our visit to the Kindergarten and document the growth of our miniature green roof.
- Prepare for the IDAF with German class.

Vision and Imagination for green roofs

What is our Vision and Imagination for our project regarding green roof?

Imagination: Our Imagination for this project is to find a collaboration partner which we can build the miniature green roofs with to demonstrate how a green roof really works and how it is constructed from the inside.

If it is possible we want to compare how a miniature green roof is growing here in Switzerland compared to a miniature green roof which is built in a more exotic environment.

This would allow us to show how the environment influences the growth and maintenance that is necessary for a green roof.

Vision: Our Vision with green roofs is that more cities install them to use the space that we do not need/use either way and help our environment with that.
