Environment & Technology

Reflection for our Project Green Gaming

Our project actually went pretty much as I had imagined it.  The detailed planning helped me to achieve my goals. I learned a lot from the project. In the future, I will be careful not to use the highest graphics settings when playing video games so that I don't waste energy unnecessarily. Also, in the future, I will question it more when I want to buy a new smartphone or computer, as I have learned how long the devices are used in India and as I can do something good for the environment.

Diffrence Between Vision & Imagination and Reflexion

"Vision and Imagination" outlines the broader goals and aspirations of making gaming more ecological, while "Reflexion" reflects on personal experiences and lessons learned from the project, focusing on individual actions and behaviors that can contribute to environmental sustainability in gaming.

Plan for today - Green Gaming

- Start planing what we want to publish exactly on DWME
- Post an update to our IDAF
- Do the tasks

Our project is on a good way. We have everything we need and the only thing that is left, is the text that we want to publish on DWME. We have pictures for the project, from me and Damian but unfortunately the students from Kerala dont want to send us pictures of them. Only Advaith did send us one of him and his laptop. The others do not want a picture of them to be published.

Framework for the web contribution - Green Gaming

[Title] Video games and the environment - How are they related?

[Self-made header picture] For example a picture of a person playing a video game on a computer, with an image of the earth in the background.

[Short intro] Video games are a popular pastime for many people, but they can have an impact on the environment. In collaboration with students from India, we conducted an experiment to measure the actual energy consumption of video games on different devices with various graphics settings.

[Relation to the Project befter - before & after the experience] Our experiment helped us understand the environmental impact of video games and the importance of sustainable use of electronic devices.

[Main body]

[Methodology] We conducted an experiment to measure the energy consumption of different video games on devices with varying graphics settings.

[Media creations] We created a video that shows our experiment and its results. We also created an audio podcast that discusses the impact of video games on the environment.

[Interview] We conducted an interview with a student from India who discussed the challenges of playing video games on limited resources.

[Picture gallery with captions] We included a picture gallery with captions that show the equipment we used for our experiment and the results of our measurements.

[Survey results, Graphics, tables, etc.] We included graphics and tables that show the energy consumption of different video games on devices with various graphics settings.

[Experience, Reflection] Based on our experiment, we learned that video games with high graphics settings consume more energy than those with low graphics settings. We also learned that the sustainable use of electronic devices is an important factor in reducing energy consumption.

[Insights, experience, conclusion, tips for future teams, technical advice, etc.] We recommend that gamers use low graphics settings to reduce energy consumption and consider reusing old devices or their parts to minimize environmental impact. We also suggest conducting more experiments to better understand the environmental impact of video games.

Finished article - Green Gaming

Articel ready for publishing
On Wednesday afternoon Damian and I finished writing our article and had a quick look at it with Mrs. Mittelholzer. We then sent it to the newspaper and are waiting for their response. Below you can find our finished article.

More...
