Wow, the time went by much faster than expected. A few months ago we started with the projects and now I could publish my contribution.
Especially the beginning of my project I would describe as "bumpy". First of all, I had a completely different idea. I wanted to find out how the social status of a person relates to the environment. Unfortunately, that didn't work out and I had to look for something else. More...
While thinking back on our work for the project, we came to the decision that we already knew quite a lot about the subject at the beginning, for example, that artificial snow is very expensive and that it will be used more and more as time goes on. What we were not aware of, however, was the impact that artificial snow has on the environment. For example, a meadow is strongly changed by the artificial snow, because much more water melts towards the end of the winter and thus displaces plants that rather prefer the dryness.
Stay tuned for our final contribution!
We think our project went pretty well. The detailed planning helped us to achieve my goals and we learned a lot from the project. We had the opportunity to cooperate with India and our communication was excellent. Once our collaboration was established, we opened a group chat on WhatsApp. We exchanged ideas, shared our progress and sent each other pictures. Video chats were also a very helpful option. We made good progress and all members tried to complete the tasks in time. Of course, there is a noticeable time difference between Switzerland and India, which made it a little difficult to set a date and time for zoom meetings. But all in all, it was a very positive experience.
Difference between Vision & Imagination and Reflexion
Vision and Imagination" outlines the broader goals and aspirations of local wind power, while "Reflection" reflects on personal experiences and lessons learned from the project, focusing on individual actions and behaviors that can contribute to wind power.
Our project actually went pretty much as I had imagined it. The detailed planning helped me to achieve my goals. I learned a lot from the project. In the future, I will be careful not to use the highest graphics settings when playing video games so that I don't waste energy unnecessarily. Also, in the future, I will question it more when I want to buy a new smartphone or computer, as I have learned how long the devices are used in India and as I can do something good for the environment.
Diffrence Between Vision & Imagination and Reflexion
"Vision and Imagination" outlines the broader goals and aspirations of making gaming more ecological, while "Reflexion" reflects on personal experiences and lessons learned from the project, focusing on individual actions and behaviors that can contribute to environmental sustainability in gaming.
What happened to you personally and/or to the team in between?
For me personally, it was a fascinating topic. The things I learned definitely opened my eyes. I am certain that just a few other topics would have been able to do it in such a manner. The people I have met during the process of creating were one of a kind. For example my friend Rudolf Isenschmid, a guy who has been with the Penan on multiple occasions, or the photographer Tomas Wüthrich, who kindly allowed me to use his phenomenal pictures. Additionally, I started to appreciate what I actually have and how good we have it here in Switzerland. The problems we are facing are almost non-existent in comparison to what the Penan face on a daily basis. It is almost incomprehensible for us, having to fight for our homes, for example.
What kind of knowledge and experience could you achieve?
I realized, that I do not need much to be happy. This might sound a bit like something a lot of people would say, but to see how the Penan live really opened my eyes. Through the interview, I was able to experience second hand what it means to interact with this special tribe. When I spoke with the photographer who was with the Penan in 2019 and took amazing pictures, which helped me to immerse into the project even better.
How biased has your perception of the “real world” been?
Really bias actually, the conception of my world in comparison to the life on Borneo is vastly different. The problems we face could not be more different. We feel like we got screwed over when the train does not come on time, but they fight for the home on a daily basis. They need to protect their home against the illegal logging, an issue they did not cause themselves but have to carry the consequences. Just because we, the rest of the world want the tropical woods and their own governments need space for agriculture. It definitely helped me to realize how privileged we have it here in Switzerland.
Did your guesses correspond?
Up to a certain degree for sure, but also not really. I have heard a lot during past conversations with my interview partner. But through the interview I started to ask questions I have not asked before, through that it has changed my point of view on the indigenous tribe from Borneo and on my own life. I fulfilled my goals for my project, I created something I can be proud of, something which can help to rethink and change the view of the world. At least a little bit.
Unfortunately, we have not yet received a positive decision. We will stay tuned and continue to try to achieve success in publishing. In case of positive feedback we will post an update on the horse. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with our project so far and are still motivated to continue it.
Our Team (Switzerland): Alicia, Leonie, Luana
Status: Still in progress
Unfortunately, no partners from India are interested in our project. Therefore, no communication tools were used and no meeting has been held.
We carry on with our project ourselves and are curious about our results.
We are currently collecting our plastic waste to fill up a water bottle.
