Hey there!
Thank you for answering our survey questions. Without you we couldn't have reached this level in our research.
58 people around the world participated.
1. How much one way plastic do you use per day? (e.g. PET bottles, wrapping paper)
Most people use 2 pieces of plastic per day. On average, people use 3.77 pieces of plastic a day.
2. Have you ever tried to reduce your plastic consumption?

38 people tried to reduce their plastic consumption at least once while 17 people never tried.
3. If you answered Question 2 with „yes“, how was it for you?

Most people (15) think that reducing plastic is neither easy nor difficult. Almost as many people (14) found it difficult. The other participants didn't try (12) or it was easy (9) for them.
4. Which of the following would you do to help the environment?

The result shows that not many people who answered our survey like the use of cardboard / paper straws or packaging. The usage of own bags, reusable bottles and tupperware is more likely to be chosen.
5. Would you be open to switching from plastic to reusable bottles (e.g. glass)?

43 people would be open to switch from plastic bottles to reusable bottles whereas 12 people are unsure.
6. Have you ever heard of bottle bricks before?

This answer shows us that bottle bricks aren't very known. Maybe our project will / could change that.
7. Would you like to make bottle bricks as well?

This answer may have resulted in that way because the topic isn't very popular and in some places it may be difficult to donate them when produced.
8. Would you be interested in following our bottle brick project?

We are happy to see how many people are interested in our project!
9. How old are you?

We received the most answers from people aged under 18.
10. Which country are you from?

Most people who answered our survey questions are from Switzerland. Some are from India. Other countries are specified in Question 11.
11. If you answered Question 10 with "other", please write down your country in CAPITAL LETTERS.
- PAPA-NEUGUINEA: 1 person
- ITALY: 1 person
Quite interesting that our survey reached other countries apart from Switzerland!
Today Luana is sick and Leonie and i are working on our project without her. We want wo complete the survey and have our class answer it. We also want to send it to India (and maybe Dubai) and post it on social media for many more people to see.
We prepared a survey for our project and would like to test it before publishing.
We would be grateful if you answered our questions. You can quickly click on "survey".
Thanks in advance!

Description:
Bottle Bricks are a simple and accessible technology that can transform everyday plastic materials into a useful building material plastic bottles stuffed full of trash until they are as compact as bricks.
Think about it: Bottle bricking is a recycling solution of sorts, which makes it good for the environment in some ways. But bottle bricking is not just a way to keep trash out of landfills and waterways. For some, bottle bricking enables them to have a better life: a life with shelter. Bottle bricks are used to build houses for people living in 3rd world countries.
1. How old are you? (Important to see which age category uses the most plasic)
- Under 18
- 18-24
- 25-34
- 35-44
- 45 or above
2. How much one way plastic do you use per day? (Important to see how much plastic is used)
- none
- 1-3 pieces
- 3-6 pieces
- More
3. Have you ever tried to reduce your plastic consumption? (Important to see if people have already had experience with reducing plastic waste and if they are interested in helping the environment)
- yes
- no
4. If you answered Question 3 with „yes“, how was it for you? (Important to know if they would do it again and if it was difficult for them)
- easy
- neither easy nor difficult
- difficult
- I didn‘t try to reduce my plastic comsumption
5. What of the following things would you use to help the environment? (Important to know if people are open to alternatives)
- tote bags
- reusable bottles
- cardboard/paper straws or packaging
- use tupperware
- all of the above
6. Would you be open to switch from plastic to reusable bottles (f.e. glass)? (Important to know if people are open to alternatives)
- yes
- no
- maybe
7. Have you heard of bottle bricks before? (Important to know if people deal with topics about recycling)
- yes
- no
8. Would you be interested in following our project about bottle bricks? (Important to see if people would be interested in reading our end result)
- yes
- no
9. Would you like to also make bottle bricks? (Curiosity)
- likely
- unlikely
We asked the ChatGPT the following question:
What are the 10 most important terms for our project bottle bricks?
And these were the answers:
- Sustainability
- Recycling
- Plastic waste
- Compression strength
- Building material
- Eco-friendly
- Reusable
- Upcycling
- Durability
- Alternative construction material
My vision and imaginations for bottle bricks:

My thoughts about the project:
- I'm curious about how much plastic waste I produce.
- I'm curious about how long it takes to fill up a bottle.
- Does Switzerland use bottle bricks?
- Is it useful?
- How can we produce less plastic waste?
- Are there alternatives?
- What can we do with bigger plastic pieces / hard plastic?
Ideas:
- Choose other packaging
- Bring food from home
- Eat out
- Use reusable bottle
- Tote bag
- use scissors to make smaller pieces that fit in the bottle

Our Team (Switzerland): Alicia, Leonie, Luana
Status: Still in progress
Unfortunately, no partners from India are interested in our project. Therefore, no communication tools were used and no meeting has been held.
We carry on with our project ourselves and are curious about our results.
We are currently collecting our plastic waste to fill up a water bottle.
Our team: Alicia, Leonie, Luana
Research question: How much plastic waste do we produce (until bottle is filled)?
We have to look up where and how we can donate these bottles to factories and find out if they need it. Is it even possible to give them away in Switzerland?
Our answer: in progress
Description/methods/techniques:
We start putting our plastic waste in a plastic bottle to see how long it takes to fill it up and how much waste we produce, take a picture of the bottle every day.
We estimate the duration of the filling process to take up to 2 weeks.
Rules: cut up big plastic pieces so they fit, use Evian 75cl bottle
Material & difficulties: 1 evian 75cl bottle, plastic waste we produce ourselves, keep used plastic throughout the day, bigger plastic pieces, hard plastic (difficult to cut up)
Experts comment: not available yet
Goal/Result: find out how long and how much plastic it takes to fill up such a bottle, measure how much waste there is in a short period of time

Every minute, about one truckload of plastic waste ends up in the ocean worldwide. Are we in Switzerland partly responsible for this problem?
