Possible questions for the interview with the wastewater treatment team

1. What are the main steps involved in treating wastewater?

—> Obviously, this is my main question. After hearing the answer for this question I want to show the process in steps to make it clear for everyone.

2. How is the quality of the treated water monitored and ensured?

—> Well, this question was not my own idea but I think it is important as well. After hearing a few informations the quality of the the treated water must be really good.

3. What are some of the challenges you face in your job on a daily basis?

—> This is a very subjective questions for my interview partner. For sure, I want to ask this questions but I am not sure yet if I want to use the answer for everything to come.

4. How does your facility handle industrial wastewater compared to domestic wastewater?

—>  Here I am not sure, if there is even a difference. So, I will see what the answer is. If there is a difference it is nice and if not it is not a problem.

5. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

—> Also a subjective question. Maybe I will not use it afterwards.

6. What kind of technology do you use to treat wastewater?

—> I want to ask this question, because I am also interested in the technical aspect of the process.

7. Are there any new technologies or processes being implemented in the industry?

—> Another interesting questions and follows the one before. From what I already heard is wastewater treatment in a constantly changing process to make the process more easily, energy-saving and more futuristic.

8. How does your facility ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards?

—> This is also a subjective questions. Maybe I could ask what are regulations and standards at all.

9. How does the treated wastewater get reused or disposed of after treatment?

—> To be honest, I do not have a specific reason why I want to ask this question. It just seemed important.

10. What is the evironmental aspect of wastewater treatment?

—> This question has another aspect of my project. I want to know, how the environment would be, if there was no wastewater treatment.

11. Can you share any interesting or surprising facts about wastewater or the wastewater treatment process?

—> Maybe I can get a interesting fact, which make it even more interesting.

Concept for project „Wastewater treatment“

Goal: The goal of this project is to educate the public about the wastewater treatment process, the importance of proper treatment, and the potential for resource recovery.

Objectives:

1. Showcase the process: The project aims to showcase the various stages of wastewater treatment and explain the purpose of each stage. By doing so, the public can understand how wastewater is treated and the importance of the process.

2. Highlight resource recovery: The project will highlight the potential for resource recovery from wastewater, such as the recovery of energy and nutrients. By doing so, the public can appreciate the value of wastewater and the benefits of proper treatment.

3. Engage the community: The project will engage the community with a comprehensive contribution, to promote the importance of proper wastewater treatment and resource recovery.

Approach:

1. Research: The project will start with research on the wastewater treatment process, resource recovery, and the latest technologies and best practices for wastewater treatment.

2. Site visit: The project team will visit a wastewater treatment facility to document the process and collect data. This will serve as the primary source for the project's content.

3. Content creation: The project will use various media, such as videos, infographics, and written content, to showcase the wastewater treatment process and its potential for resource recovery.

Potential collaborators:

1.Wastewater treatment facilities: Wastewater treatment facilities can provide access to the treatment process and data for the project.

2. Industry experts: Industry experts can provide insight into the latest technologies and best practices for wastewater treatment and resource recovery.

3. Local government: The local government can provide support for the project and help promote it to the community.

4. NGOs: Non-governmental organizations that work on environmental issues can provide expertise and resources for the project.

Expected outcome:

The project aims to increase public awareness of the importance of proper wastewater treatment and resource recovery. By showcasing the wastewater treatment process and its potential for resource recovery, the project hopes to promote sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Status of team composition - waste water

Before the sports vacations, a short presentation about the projects of us students took place during a Zoom session. Unfortunately, I had decided on a new project shortly before and there was not much to show. I also think that's the reason why I couldn't find any collaboration partners (yet).

I will add a more detailed description in "Mural" in the near future, so that other people can imagine my project better and might want to collaborate with me.

Another option for collaboration may be offered to me by my employer. During the vacations, I was already able to send an email to the wastewater treatment team and expect a response soon. An "extended interview" is still planned. That is, I will not only ask questions but have everything explained to me on a grand scale.

A week later I received an answer. For Andreas Friess, the head of the sewage treatment plant, it's no problem and I should just get in touch. -> But here I first have to consult with Ms Sutter again.

Update 17.03.2023: Today I went to a possible collaboration partner. My primary school teacher lived in Thailand for a few years. Already there, the world of wastewater should look very different. For me it is an optimal solution. I have arranged with him on March 31, so that he can tell me about it. --> Unfortunately he cancelled the appointment

Update 16.04.2023: It was possible for me to win Alexandra Kappeler as a partner. (See also:the-horse.education/post/status-of-team-composition)

wastewater treatment plant - How to get energy from wastewater / vision & imagination

Well, that's my title. Nothing special, but that should clarify a process that many (or at least I) do not know. Here in Switzerland, wastewater treatment is a commonplace that is used by the vast majority of people. In the context of the subject "Technology and Environment", I would like to get to the bottom of this. For this I have thought about some guiding principles:

… Hold on, before I think about these, I would like to have the exact definition of vision and imagination first.

The vision is the idea of an ideal future state that is aspired to. Here: how should wastewater be treated in the future?

Vision, Mission, Strategie einfach erklärt

An imagination is a content represented in the mind, which goes back to a perception, usually also with a mental processing of perceived content. An imagination can result in something that is not present in reality or could even never be present. Likewise, however, imaginations can also represent realistic future-related expectations, or they can be based on memories.

Definition Vorstellung

Now that that's cleared up, I can get back to my questions….

Why did I choose this project?
This is where my biggest problem actually starts. I know that I want to find out what happens between the drainage of the water in the apartment to the complete reuse. Because I have no idea about everything in between. So accordingly, I chose this project and to understand this process.

What do I want to achieve? And how?
In a primary step, I first want to understand everything. Probably there is also not "The wastewater treatment" but many different forms, which are adapted to the wastewater of a particular area. In a second step I would like to share my knowledge. I always find it amazing how many everyday things we are not aware of. And besides, additional knowledge is never bad.

For the first goal, I have several options. The easiest would probably be to ask the Internet. But since that would be a bit too short and boring for me, I'm looking for other options. With a little luck, I have the opportunity to speak directly with someone in the field who can answer all my questions.

For the second goal, I depend on my fellow human beings. Do they find it exciting as well? Are they interested? Do they visit Don't waste my energy? Many questions could follow here.

What should the result be so that I am satisfied?
I would like to realize a project that helps me and others. I would like to say, "Yes, I have understood that pretty well now." Especially the environmental aspect should not be neglected. I think that this plays a big role in wastewater treatment.

How does this project benefit me in the future?
With this project, I understand why wastewater treatment exists and how it works. Of course, it is not knowledge that is needed in most everyday life, but it is certainly not bad to know about it. Maybe I will also learn other facts, such as how our environment could be protected and supported even more.
