Fifteen years ago, Steve Jobs presented the first iPhone at MacWorld in San Francisco. To date, around two billion iPhones have been sold and it is hard to imagine everyday life without the all-rounder smartphone. In the current issue, Richard and Markus discuss how our world has changed as a result of this technical milestone and what the downsides of rapid progress are. Have fun!

Social media and online platforms in Cuba

Change usually happens at a snail's pace (im Schneckentempo) in Cuba, but new media have rapidly transformed the Caribbean island in recent years. Since Cubans gained free access to the Internet in 2018, censorship has become permeable (Zänsur wurde durchlässig). International websites - and thus also Spanish and U.S. daily newspapers in which Cuban dissidents have their say - can be easily accessed via the mobile network. Anyone who wants to obtain critical information in Cuba can do so today without major restrictions.
