Visit at the wastewater treatment plant

On March 30, 2023, the day had finally arrived. I was able to visit the wastewater treatment plant in Rüti in the Zurich Oberland region. Thanks to my connection with my employer (Rüti municipality), it was relatively easy to arrange a visit. Prior to my visit, I had prepared some questions and sent them to the wastewater treatment plant team. When I arrived there, the operation of the wastewater treatment plant was explained to me first. I will try to summarize the important steps here. More...

The search for a collaboration partner continues

What I have tried so far:

  • (07.02.2023) The first opportunity to find a collaboration partner was during an organized team meeting with students from India with Mrs. Suter. The students had the opportunity to briefly look at our projects. Unfortunately, nobody was interested in mine. This could be due to the fact that unlike other projects, mine was only described very briefly.More...

Cancellation of my cooperation partner

Unfortunately, my scheduled collaboration has cancelled our appointment. I am now actively searching for a new partner who can provide insight and expertise on wastewater treatment practices abroad. My teacher gave me two other options:

Ms Kappeler and Mr Stadler

Both are experts in wastewater treatment. I wrote them today a e-mail. Lets look, what they will answer.

Use of media „Wastewater treatment“

Possibilities I use in my project:

- Interview —> Audio, but in the end it is only written.

- Visit: ARA in Rüti.

- Online research (Different websites, YouTube, etc.)

- Employer (I work part-time)

Other possibilites in could use in my project:

- Ask a person from another country how wastewater works there (I had a partner, but unfortunately he cancelled the appointment)

- Video

Plan for today (21.03.2023)

1. Peer feedback

—> Write a feedback to the „Impact trough conflict“ team

—> This feedback is related to task 23

2. Clean up

—> I have the feeling that my  posts on the Horse are a bit unstructured. I would like to change that today and tidy things up a bit.

3. Prepare for Interview with waste water team

—> This afternoon I want to call the waste water team to fix a date for the interview. Possible time slots would be on tuesday morning or friday afternoon.

Possible Collaboration partner for project „Wastewater“

Since I have not been able to find any collaboration partners so far, I would like to give some thought to who else I could ask for this.

1. In primary school I had a teacher who lived for a few years in south africa and thailand.  I could ask him, if he knows anyone who could I ask. Maybe he has also some informations for me.

2. I could ask WWF if they can give me some further information about wastewater treatment in other countries. Especially in eastern or african countries (https://www.wwf.ch/de/ueber-uns/kontaktformular)

3. Another option is Helvtas. They provide humanitarian help in the most poor countries (https://www.helvetas.org/de/schweiz/wer-wir-sind/kontakt)

4. Eawag is a water research institute with international roots. Perhaps they can tell me about the conditions in other countries (https://www.eawag.ch/de/ueber-uns/portraet/auftrag-und-strategie/)

Ideas from the teacher:

1. Alexandra Kappeler  1st degree connection1st
Programme Manager & Deputy Head of Expert Group «Construction»
alexandra.kappeler@gmail.com

2. WASH ExpertWASH Expert
Swiss Humanitarian Aid SHA, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA

3. https://www.eawag.ch/en/department/sandec/

Special Idea:

The company „Vuna“ provides a different method for wastewater. Maybe I can integrate it in my project (https://vuna.ch)
