A student from Kerala is interested in our project. We have contacted the student, in order to set up a meeting/group call.
Message 1:
Dear Shruthi
Ms. Suter told us that you are interested in our project impact on environment due to conflict. We were wondering why you are interested in this project. We would also like to hear from you in what way you could contribute to our group work in your opinion. Ms. Suter advised for us to set up a group call.
Best,
Marina & Pascal

Penan from Borneo
The Penan are an indigenous tribe on the island of Borneo, Malaysia/Indonesia. Today there are around 10’000 tribesman left. Most of the Penan settled down and left the nomadic lifestyle behind, but they still rely on the rainforest for most of their basic needs. Roughly a few 100 Penan still live the nomadic lifestyle and fully depend on their surrounding for their day-to-day needs. The traditional nomadic lifestyle includes hunting, fishing, and gathering of over 300 plants, roots and fruits.

The first stage of our project is completed: we have done research on CO2 emissions, analysed how we create emissions and gathered ideas on how to reduce the emissions.
The next step is creating the survey. We have decided to make the survey with "survey monkey". We have set ourself the task to each come up with three question ideas for the survey until the next group collaboration, where we will discuss the ideas and concretise the questions to start creating our survey.
We focus on livestock farming (Nutztierhaltung). A farm animal is an animal that is used economically by humans because of certain abilities or for aesthetic reasons.
The vision of the World Animal Protection Society is a world in which animals are perceived by people and treated with respect and in an animal-friendly manner. Animal welfare begins with people.
Animal welfare refers to all human activities aimed at enabling animals to live a life appropriate to their species without causing suffering, pain, harm and unnecessary impairments. With a few exceptions, the Animal Welfare Act in Switzerland applies to vertebrates (Wirbeltiere) such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals (Säugetiere). [1]
The Animal Welfare Act in Switzerland protects the welfare and dignity of animals. Serious breaches violations of its regulations may result in a ban on keeping, breeding and dealing with animals as a profession.
Since April 1, 2003, animals are no longer legally considered as objects in Switzerland. According to Art. 641a 1 of the ZGB, they are now regarded as sentient and suffering beings. However, they have no actual rights and obligations that are legally enforceable. [2]
Animal protection was anchored in the Swiss Federal Constitution in 1973 (Art. 80 BV). The Animal Welfare Act (TschG) followed in 1978, which came into force with the Animal Welfare Ordinance of 1981 and has since been revised several times. [3]

What are our imaginations for the project?
Quote from Nina: "When I joined the team and thought about the project, the first thing that came to mind is my own co2 emission. I drive a car and make quite a few kilometers a day, so it isn‘t too easy to reduce the co2 emission since public transport is inconvient in my situation. But I thought about other things I could change, like buying local food or using second hand clothing instead of fast fashion. As a side note I want to add that there is an interesting project on the project of fast fashion." More...
We're now in contact with 3 students from India. Looking forward to next week as we are trying to have a meeting in order to reach a goal which everbody is interested in.
Another part of our project is to ask professional sportsmen and women, how their nutrition is different from nonprofessionals.
The collaboration with India is a possibility to compare the diffrences beetween the nutrition from India and Switzerland.

Interview mit Gilles Roulin
We did an interview via E-mail with Gilles Roulin. He has answered the questions posed and retourned them back to us. Gilles Roulin is a professional swiss skier.
Zuerst allgemeine Fragen:
- Haben Sie irgendein Lebensmotto? More...
Today we figured out some questions for our online survey on umfrageonline.ch.
Questions:
- Are you vegan or vegetarian?
- How important is animal welfare to you in relation to the food you consume?
- Are you willing to spend more money on animal products for the welfare of animals?
- Swiss livestock farming in comparison to the EU and USA: Better than Switzerland or worse?
- Do you think that animal welfare in Switzerland can still be improved?
- How many kilograms of meat do you think you consume per year?
- Do you think that the demand for meat can be fully covered by domestic production?
The survey took place last week from the 22.03. - 25.03.2023 for 100 chosen people. We will share the results later.

In our last post we made a list of how we create CO2 emissions. Here a little reminder:
- use of car
- use of public transport
- going on holidays with the airplane
- heating
- buying clothes, shoes, food, digital devices More...
